The Consulate General of Italy in Chicago has been located, since July 2026, at 150 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1500, in the prestigious Diamond Building, a modern office tower in the heart of downtown Chicago. The new offices overlook Millennium Park and are within walking distance of the iconic Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), the Chicago Cultural Center, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the shores of Lake Michigan, offering visitors a central location that is easily accessible by both public transportation and major roadways.
The Consulate General is headed by a career Consul General and has jurisdiction over the following states: Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. According to the Consulate General’s estimates, more than 22,000 Italian citizens reside in the State of Illinois alone, while over 30,000 live throughout the entire consular district. Furthermore, according to the latest U.S. Census data, approximately 735,000 Americans of Italian descent live in Illinois, and more than 1,435,000 reside within the Consulate’s jurisdiction.
The consular district covers an extensive territory with a population exceeding 65 million people. The farthest communities are located thousands of miles from the Consulate’s headquarters in Chicago. To better serve Italian nationals throughout this vast region, the Consulate General is supported by an honorary consular network currently consisting of four Honorary Vice Consulates and two Honorary Consular Correspondents, operating in areas with significant Italian communities.
