The Consulate General of Italy, Education Office, is pleased to present the initiative “Italian Children’s Library” which will take place in 5 schools of the Chicago consular District, from May 11 to May 14, 2022, and that will host a calendar of reading education activities in Italian which will involve students of the Union Ridge School, Chicago World Language Academy, La Salle Language Academy, Enrico Fermi Italian School, “Insieme a Chicago” Association.
The aim of the project is to activate spaces and paths of interpretative reading of illustrated books, practicing critical and conscious reading in Italian.
The activities that will be carried out are part of an innovative project entitled “Italian Children’s Library: Narrating Suitcases”, based on the use of illustrated books for inclusive and itinerant teaching.
The Project was already carried out in New York and it has been experimented in dual-language classes of different orders and degrees around the world.
The project includes various network and training actions, involving a pool of experts in Italian literature and publishing for children, as well as a traveling exhibition, from 11 to 4 May, of 40 Italian Awarded Picture Books, winners of national awards, acknowledgments of public and critics.
