The Municipality of Torricella Peligna (Province of Chieti), within the framework of the cultural festivals John Fante Festival “Il dio di mio padre” [“My Father’s God”] and Piccolo Festival delle Spartenze Migrazioni e Cultura [Small Festival of Departures, Migrations, and Culture], has launched a literary competition for unpublished stories, aimed at Italian authors or authors of Italian origin residing abroad.
The competition, further detailed on the dedicated page on the John Fante Festival website (https://www.johnfante.org/premio-italia-radici-nel-mondo-2024-i-edizione/), aims to broaden the discussion on the themes of Italian emigration and the bond between Italians in Italy and compatriots abroad. The theme of the competition, in its inaugural edition, is “Le mie radici plurime” [my multiple roots].
The competition jury will be chaired by anthropologist Vito Teti and composed of the creators of the prize, Giovanna Di Lello and Giuseppe Sommario, as well as personalities from the publishing world, writers, and migration experts.
The jury will select 10 semi-finalist works, 3 finalist works, which will be offered publication through the channels of the John Fante Festival, and one winning work, which will also receive a cash prize of €1,000.
The initiative is part of the activities for 2024 – Year of Italian Roots in the World, and several events related to it are planned in the area. The announcement of the semi-finalists will take place within the framework of the Piccolo Festival delle Spartenze (August 8th-11th). The announcement of the winner, on the other hand, will take place within the framework of the John Fante Festival (August 22nd-25th). Additionally, a prize-giving ceremony for the winner will be organized subsequently.
