Ambassador Varricchio at the Atlantic Council for a conversation on the COVID-19 emergency response.

Washington, March 19, 2020. The Ambassador of Italy to the United States of America, Armando Varricchio, together with fellow Ambassadors from Singapore and the European Union, participated in a conference on the international response to the emergency COVID-19 organized by the Atlantic Council, one of Washington’s most prestigious think-tanks.

During the conversation attended by representatives of the Administration, private companies, experts and American and international press, the Ambassador offered a picture of the Italian response to the emergency not only from the health point of view but also political, economic and social. All the speakers underlined that this is a complex moment placing the international community in front of difficult choices and pointing to the need for an increased international collaboration. In this regard, Ambassador Varricchio recalled the unprecedented choices in the history of Italy, the determination to preserve the nature of an open democracy of our society, the courage and determination of the Italian people and the numerous manifestations of solidarity from all over the world.

Ambassador Varricchio highlighted in particular how the Atlantic ties can allow us to face this phase with a spirit of unity and determination. He then stressed “the transparency of the Italian emergency approach, which allows sharing crucial data on the virus with the international community, and the importance of avoiding the circulation of misleading information, remembering for example how “made in Italy” goods are completely sure.”
