data-end=\"346\">APOSTILLE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"348\" data-end=\"642\">An <strong data-start=\"351\" data-end=\"364\">Apostille<\/strong> is the certification established by the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961, which allows a public document issued in one country that is party to the Convention to be recognized in other countries that are also parties to the Convention, including Italy and the United States.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"775\">For U.S. documents, the Apostille must be issued by the competent authority <strong data-start=\"720\" data-end=\"774\">of the same State in which the document was issued<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"777\" data-end=\"918\">For example, a certificate issued in the State of Illinois must bear an Apostille issued by the competent authority of the State of Illinois.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"920\" data-end=\"1090\">For information on the authorities competent to issue Apostilles in different countries, please refer to the website of the Hague Conference on Private International Law.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1107\"><strong data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1107\">TRANSLATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1228\">Documents intended for use in Italy must be accompanied by a <strong data-start=\"1170\" data-end=\"1228\">complete, accurate and typed translation into Italian.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1377\">The translation must include <strong data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1310\">all elements appearing on the original document<\/strong>, including text, stamps, headings, annotations and certifications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1379\" data-end=\"1428\"><strong data-start=\"1379\" data-end=\"1428\">The Apostille does not need to be translated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1629\">The Consulate General <strong data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1493\">does not provide translation services<\/strong>. The translation may be prepared by the applicant or by any other person who is able to accurately translate the document into Italian.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1764\">Applicants who prefer to use a professional translator may consult the <strong data-start=\"1702\" data-end=\"1726\">List of Translators:<\/strong> <span class=\"contents\" data-content-reference-start=\"1727\" data-content-reference-end=\"1841\"><span class=\"\" data-state=\"closed\"><a class=\"decorated-link\" href=\"https:\/\/conschicago.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Lista-Traduttori-01.09.2026.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">List of Translators<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1816\"><strong data-start=\"1766\" data-end=\"1816\">CERTIFICATION OF CONFORMITY OF THE TRANSLATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1818\" data-end=\"1908\">To obtain certification of conformity of the translation, the following must be submitted:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1910\" data-end=\"2238\">\n<li data-section-id=\"ni2xvp\" data-start=\"1910\" data-end=\"1983\">the <strong data-start=\"1916\" data-end=\"1955\">original document or certified copy<\/strong>, duly bearing an Apostille;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1rfaje\" data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2026\">a <strong data-start=\"1988\" data-end=\"2025\">complete translation into Italian<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1o9mwqr\" data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2164\">a <strong data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2046\">Money Order<\/strong> payable to <strong data-start=\"2058\" data-end=\"2099\">Consulate General of Italy in Chicago<\/strong>, in the amount required under the current Consular Fee Schedule;<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"ryoce4\" data-start=\"2165\" data-end=\"2238\">a <strong data-start=\"2169\" data-end=\"2205\">prepaid, self-addressed envelope<\/strong> for the return of the documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2405\">Certification of conformity is subject to the fee established under <strong data-start=\"2308\" data-end=\"2352\">Article 72A of the Consular Fee Schedule<\/strong>, which is charged <strong data-start=\"2371\" data-end=\"2404\">for each translated page\/side<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2407\" data-end=\"2598\">Consular fees are updated periodically.
